Synopsis[]

Based on Ingmar Bergman’s 1956 film, Smiles of a Summer Night, it takes place over a weekend in the country in early 20th century Sweden. The story revolves around 3 couples. Middle-aged widowed lawyer, Fredrik Egerman, has remarried, but his young new wife Anne is still a virgin after 11 months of marriage. He meets up with his former mistress, Desiree, but the latter turns up unexpectedly with her current lover. In the meantime, Fredrik’s son has fallen in love with his father’s young wife.

  • Glynis Johns, who originated the part of Desiree Armfeldt, turned 100 on October 5th, 2023. She is possibly the oldest Tony winner alive.
