Croesus, Emperor of Lydia and Luckiest of Men

The historian Herodotus writes about the emperor of a large territory in Asia Minor long before Greece was powerful. It is a brief episode in Herodotus's history, but a poignant one about hubris and kharma. So I thought it would make a decent story.
